With extensive experience in the field, we are committed to delivering exceptional and reliable care. Our 24/7 ambulatory service is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment tools, ensuring that we meet the highest standards of veterinary care.
Our clinic, a branch of Priory Veterinary Surgeons in Reigate, carries a rich legacy of over 90 years in equine care. In September 2023, after a decade of exemplary service in Surrey and Sussex, Dr. Corrado Montoneri privately acquired the equine branch, establishing Surrey Hills Equine and continuing a proud tradition of independence.
Our team at Surrey Hills Equine consists of highly qualified equine veterinary professionals passionate about providing cutting-edge care for all horses. We prioritise their well-being and performance, whether it is elite competitors in eventing, show jumping, dressage, racing thoroughbreds, pleasure horses, or retired companions.
Our extensive services include pre-purchase examinations, regular health check-ups, lameness and performance evaluations, advanced mobile diagnostic imaging, endoscopy, gastroscopy, and riding establishment inspections.
We continually invest in specialist equipment to uphold our commitment to clinical excellence. This ensures we can quickly diagnose and address issues, developing optimal treatment plans tailored to each horse's unique needs.

Let our Walliswood equine dentists look after your horse's teeth
At Surrey Hills Equine, we emphasise the critical importance of regular, specialist horse dentistry as a cornerstone of routine equine healthcare. The horse's mouth serves as a vital means of communication between horse and rider, impacting overall health and performance. Often underestimated, oral discomfort in horses can go unnoticed without apparent symptoms.
In recent years, equine dentistry has advanced significantly, with modern practices advocating a proactive approach focused on preventing dental issues rather than merely reacting to them. Through comprehensive clinical equine dentistry assessments every six to 12 months, minor irregularities can be identified early, preventing them from escalating into more severe problems.
By embracing this preventive philosophy, we are committed to ensuring that each horse receives the thorough dental care essential for their well-being and peak performance.
Two and five-stage horse vettings in Ewhurst, GU6
Our experienced team of equine veterinarians regularly performs Pre-Purchase Examinations (PPEs) for clients and insurance evaluations on behalf of equine insurance companies. A PPE is a crucial procedure that is recommended before acquiring almost any horse. It aims to thoroughly evaluate the animal to identify any factors that could increase the purchase risk.
We offer two- and five-stage vettings, often supplemented with X-rays, scans, and scopes to assess the horse's suitability for its intended use. We aim to collaborate closely with buyers to ensure they acquire a horse perfectly matched to their needs.
We are dedicated to conducting comprehensive assessments that enable informed purchasing decisions and promote the well-being of the horse and its future owner.

Other Equine Services in Surrey
Our horse vets can provide a complete range of services, including:
Lameness and poor performance
Lameness issues can inflict pain on your horse and cause concern and disruption for you as an owner. Our goal is to identify the cause of the problem and recommend suitable treatment to get your horse back to normal as quickly as possible.
The lameness investigation may involve various procedures, including the examination of your horse's conformation, movement, stride, and limb placement, flexion tests, palpation of the limbs and muscles, examination at walk and trot in hand and on the lunge, ridden examination, nerve or joint blocks, and X-ray or ultrasound.
Gastroscopy
Equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS) is increasingly acknowledged as a common culprit behind various clinical signs, including poor performance, behavioural changes, reduced appetite, lacklustre coat condition, and discomfort during girthing.
All horses face the risk of developing ulcers, with contributing factors such as a high-carbohydrate diet, intense training or competition schedules, and stressors like illness or changes in routine, such as box rest.
Using a gastroscope, we can visually inspect the horse's esophagus, stomach and proximal duodenum to confirm the presence of ulcers. Since ulcer treatment can be costly, a thorough stomach examination through gastroscopy is recommended before initiating any treatment.
Mobile diagnostic imaging
Surrey Hills Equine employs cutting-edge portable wireless diagnostic imaging tools, including Digital X-ray systems, Ultrasound Scanners, and Video Endoscopy, delivered directly to clients' premises. This innovative approach allows us to provide the convenience of on-site examinations, eliminating the need to transport horses.
Our horse vets may recommend additional diagnostic imaging, whether it is for lameness investigations, pre-purchase examinations (vetting), dental or head-related concerns, or assessments of upper airways for respiratory conditions or Strangles cases.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy is a valuable tool for assessing the respiratory tract, especially in horses facing respiratory issues or exhibiting poor performance.
The procedure involves passing a flexible camera, known as an endoscope, through your horse's nostril, pharynx, larynx, and down the trachea, with the option to examine the guttural pouches.
