Highly recommend Surrey Hills. I rang Corrado and he was happy to chat things through with me on a new horse that we wanted vetted. Never felt rushed through our phone chat and he answered all my questions and concerns. The horse was vetted on the same day I had rang so a very quick service. Thanks again Surrey Hills

Trusted equine dentists near Ascot, Sunningdale, or Windlesham

Surrey Hills Equine offers cutting-edge equine dentistry services tailored to meet modern standards. You can rely on us for routine, advanced, and corrective dental care for your horses and ponies. Whether routine check-ups, oral examinations, or diagnostic procedures, our horse veterinarians are skilled in performing all necessary dental treatments to ensure your horse's oral health.

We are fully equipped to handle both routine care and emergency services. Our mobile capabilities allow us to visit your location. We are equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment, ensuring comprehensive care for your horse.

Similar to human dental care, our approach emphasises prevention. We advise routine check-ups every six to 12 months to detect issues early and administer prompt treatment, minimising potential discomfort. Horses are known for their stoicism regarding oral pain, underscoring the importance of regular examinations by a skilled and qualified professional.

High-quality dental care is crucial in preserving your horse's oral health for the long term. Equine dentistry focuses on enhancing chewing efficiency and reducing the risk of abnormal tooth wear, benefiting all horses with regular dental treatments.

Horse vets for pre-purchase exams in Ascot, Lyne, or Windlesham

The pre-purchase assessment or vetting allows us to gather and analyse essential information to aid you in selecting the horse that best fits your requirements. The aim is to mitigate the buyer's risks when purchasing a new horse and to assess the overall health and athletic suitability of the horse for sale.

At Surrey Hills Equine, we aim to ensure that your next horse meets all the physical demands of your training programme. The five-stage vetting is advisable for most horses, especially those previously engaged in athletic activities like riding, jumping, or driving. This comprehensive examination aims to detect any lameness or medical issues that could hinder the horse or pony's suitability for the intended purpose of the potential buyer.

For young or unbacked horses, limited two-stage vetting is suggested. This shorter vetting encompasses the initial two stages of the complete five-stage vetting, allowing our veterinarians to assess the horse or pony based on a limited set of criteria.

Other Equine Services in Surrey

Our horse vets can provide a complete range of services, including:

Services Treating Lameness

Lameness and poor performance

Lameness issues can inflict pain on your horse and cause concern and disruption for you as an owner. Our goal is to identify the cause of the problem and recommend suitable treatment to get your horse back to normal as quickly as possible.

The lameness investigation may involve various procedures, including the examination of your horse's conformation, movement, stride, and limb placement, flexion tests, palpation of the limbs and muscles, examination at walk and trot in hand and on the lunge, ridden examination, nerve or joint blocks, and X-ray or ultrasound.

Services Gastroscopy

Gastroscopy

Equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS) is increasingly acknowledged as a common culprit behind various clinical signs, including poor performance, behavioural changes, reduced appetite, lacklustre coat condition, and discomfort during girthing.

All horses face the risk of developing ulcers, with contributing factors such as a high-carbohydrate diet, intense training or competition schedules, and stressors like illness or changes in routine, such as box rest.

Using a gastroscope, we can visually inspect the horse's esophagus, stomach and proximal duodenum to confirm the presence of ulcers. Since ulcer treatment can be costly, a thorough stomach examination through gastroscopy is recommended before initiating any treatment.

Services Diagnostic Imaging

Mobile diagnostic imaging

Surrey Hills Equine employs cutting-edge portable wireless diagnostic imaging tools, including Digital X-ray systems, Ultrasound Scanners, and Video Endoscopy, delivered directly to clients' premises. This innovative approach allows us to provide the convenience of on-site examinations, eliminating the need to transport horses.

Our horse vets may recommend additional diagnostic imaging, whether it is for lameness investigations, pre-purchase examinations (vetting), dental or head-related concerns, or assessments of upper airways for respiratory conditions or Strangles cases.

Services Endoscopy

Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a valuable tool for assessing the respiratory tract, especially in horses facing respiratory issues or exhibiting poor performance.

The procedure involves passing a flexible camera, known as an endoscope, through your horse's nostril, pharynx, larynx, and down the trachea, with the option to examine the guttural pouches.
