Highly recommend the team at Surrey Hills Equine. I recently had Corrado out to treat an injury that my horse sustained in the field and have been very impressed with treatment he has received. Corrado takes the time to explain everything that he is doing and why. Leanne and the office staff have been a pleasure to deal with, all of my insurance claims have been handled quickly and efficiently. I can't thank them enough for all that they have done and feel very lucky to have found a great practice.

Top equine dentist near Woking, Chobham and Bisley

Regular dental examinations are crucial for maintaining your horse's overall health and well-being as part of preventative veterinary care. It is strongly advised that horses undergo teeth check-ups every six to 12 months to prevent the accumulation of dental issues that could lead to discomfort.

Light sedation is often necessary for most horses to conduct a thorough inspection as it allows for a comprehensive assessment that would otherwise be challenging. It is important to understand that a dental examination involves more than just a simple rasping procedure.

A horse dentist administering the examination under sedation can appropriately address conditions such as diastema, fractured teeth, wolf teeth, and overgrowths. Sedation is included as a standard component of the dental examination and treatment pricing.

Vettings and PPEs in Woking, Worplesdon, Pirbright

Are you thinking about purchasing a horse or pony? Surrey Hills Equine recommends a comprehensive five-stage pre-purchase examination, commonly called a vetting. This thorough assessment, conducted at rest and during exercise, adheres to guidelines set by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the British Equine Veterinary Association.

Vettings allow us to identify any potential issues that could affect your future plans with the horse. Alternatively, we can conduct a limited two-stage vetting, which excludes vigorous exercise. We offer pre-purchase examinations for both our registered clients and non-registered individuals.

Upon completion of the PPE, a certificate is issued to the purchaser after a discussion with the vet. The certificate outlines any clinical findings and recommendations.

Following the Pre-Purchase Examination (PPE), the purchaser receives a certificate after a consultation with the veterinarian. This certificate details all clinical findings and includes any recommendations discussed during the examination.

Other Equine Services in Surrey

Our horse vets can provide a complete range of services, including:

Services Treating Lameness

Lameness and poor performance

Lameness issues can inflict pain on your horse and cause concern and disruption for you as an owner. Our goal is to identify the cause of the problem and recommend suitable treatment to get your horse back to normal as quickly as possible.

The lameness investigation may involve various procedures, including the examination of your horse's conformation, movement, stride, and limb placement, flexion tests, palpation of the limbs and muscles, examination at walk and trot in hand and on the lunge, ridden examination, nerve or joint blocks, and X-ray or ultrasound.

Services Gastroscopy

Gastroscopy

Equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS) is increasingly acknowledged as a common culprit behind various clinical signs, including poor performance, behavioural changes, reduced appetite, lacklustre coat condition, and discomfort during girthing.

All horses face the risk of developing ulcers, with contributing factors such as a high-carbohydrate diet, intense training or competition schedules, and stressors like illness or changes in routine, such as box rest.

Using a gastroscope, we can visually inspect the horse's esophagus, stomach and proximal duodenum to confirm the presence of ulcers. Since ulcer treatment can be costly, a thorough stomach examination through gastroscopy is recommended before initiating any treatment.

Services Diagnostic Imaging

Mobile diagnostic imaging

Surrey Hills Equine employs cutting-edge portable wireless diagnostic imaging tools, including Digital X-ray systems, Ultrasound Scanners, and Video Endoscopy, delivered directly to clients' premises. This innovative approach allows us to provide the convenience of on-site examinations, eliminating the need to transport horses.

Our horse vets may recommend additional diagnostic imaging, whether it is for lameness investigations, pre-purchase examinations (vetting), dental or head-related concerns, or assessments of upper airways for respiratory conditions or Strangles cases.

Services Endoscopy

Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a valuable tool for assessing the respiratory tract, especially in horses facing respiratory issues or exhibiting poor performance.

The procedure involves passing a flexible camera, known as an endoscope, through your horse's nostril, pharynx, larynx, and down the trachea, with the option to examine the guttural pouches.
